I know you have heard this before - but I wish I had not waited so long to have the surgery! It is awesome to wake up and see the alarm clock. It is a feeling of freedom to be able to leave the house without wearing glasses. And for the first time in numerous years - I do not have an eye restriction on my driver's license. That is cool.I would recommend your clinic to anyone interested in laser eye surgery. Everyone was friendly, courteous and professional. I had to have one eye readjusted after the first three months. I was impressed with Dr. Brumm's concern for my vision and willingness to adjust it. The thoroughness in your preparation before each procedure is very comforting. Having the nurse explain what is happening during the procedure gives you not only a feeling of comfort but of trust. For me, trust was a big issue when it came to deciding on having the procedure or not. Your clinic took away all my fears and concerns.

Hello, Over five years ago, I had Lasik at Dr. Brumm’s office. The procedure itself was fast and painless. Dr. Brumm and his staff were helpful and answered all my questions. The next day, I was able to drive myself to Dr. Brumm’s office for my follow up. Within a month, my vision was an amazing 20/15 and is still 20/20 after more than five years. However, the result I did not expect was the positive differences this surgery has made on my life. Prior to having Lasik, I would not participate in many physical activities. With my contact lenses, sports like sand volleyball, water skiing, and swimming were out of the question and the only sports activities I would participate in was the occasional golf game. Since having Lasik eye surgery, I have taken up many activities I would not have considered back when I was wearing glasses or contacts. I started practicing Tae Kwan Do, running and even sprint triathlons. These additional activities have helped me lose 40 pounds and improved my overall health and well being. I personally feel that without the surgery, I would still be overweight and inactive. I am so happy that I made the decision to have this surgery and highly recommend Dr. Brumm and his staff.

Benefits of Lasik for Athletes

A recent article by Eduardo Encino of the St. Petersburg Times discussed the benefits of Lasik to professional baseball players. Players such as Denard Span of the Minnesota Twins. Span had always been a great hitter, but lately it had become a weak point for him. He was striking out more frequently and was unable to pick-up the spin on the ball, leaving him confused as to what was going on. A visit to his eye doctor revealed he was near sighted and had astigmatism in his right eye. Span's vision was 20/40 in that eye. Since he bats left handed, his right eye spots the ball out of the pitchers hand. Since his vision had decreased, he was a split second late in picking up the pitch. With fastballs approaching 100 mph, that means the difference between a hit and a strike-out. Span discovered he was a candidate for Lasik, "a corrective laser surgery that has become increasingly popular among players in a game that relies so much on hand-eye coordination." He feels the procedure has improved his hitting ability and got him promoted out of Triple A and to the majors. Many ophthalmologists feel that Lasik surgery is an excellent procedure for most baseball players or other athletes. Contact lenses can rotate and get dirty, making it troublesome for normal activities, let alone trying to hit a fastball.

My Cataract Surgery Experience

A year ago I was told I had minor cataracts that would require surgery someday. I was told to come back in a year to have them checked again. This year they had begun affecting my detail vision. Most colors were blending together and everything was getting fussy. I went in to get a new prescription for my glasses that I have been wearing since 1963. At that time they suggested I go ahead with the Cataract Eye Surgery and implant a new Crystalens in my dominant right eye. After measurements and detailed pictures were taken the surgery was scheduled for 12:20 on Monday. The surgery only took about ½ hour and was pain free. By that afternoon I was reading without my glasses, and enjoying the true colors of the world around me. My left eye made a white sheet of paper look like parchment, while my new right eye made the same sheet of paper look as if there was a florescent light behind it. Blues were vibrant and reds jumped off the page. I could not believe I waited a year. The next day when I visited Dr. Brumm, he explained that reading would be a little fussy for a week because he dilated my eye during surgery and it would remain dilated for a week. When I told him that I could read better without my glasses than before surgery with my glasses he was amazed at the level I could read letters and numbers. I have a whole new world and I am enjoying it without my glasses that I have worn for 45 years.

What a miracle! I have worn glasses since 8th grade and this is easily the best I have seen since then. Before I had this surgery, other patient's stories seemed too good to be true, but now I would recommend this to everyone.

The staff walked me through each step and I was always given plenty of warning for what would come next. Each person was friendly and helpful, and I felt they were treating me like a person, not just another patient. I am amazed that you can perfect someone's vision so quickly and so painlessly. I am a pharmacist and can even read the NDC numbers at work!

My only regret is that I didn't do this sooner!

I recently had the IntraLase procedure done with Dr. Brumm. From the time I walked in the door to the end of the procedure, it was a wonderful experience! My two youngest sons and husband accompanied me on the day of my surgery. My sons are 3 ½ and 2 years old, so you can imagine their attention span in a doctor’s office. The front office staff interacted with them and even put Dora on for them to watch. They were so friendly and welcoming, which is not always the case when children are in doctor’s offices. My pre-op exam was thorough and really helped to put my mind at ease. And, the actual procedure itself could not have gone better … Every doctor, especially Dr. Brumm, as well as the assistants were encouraging and motivating and made me feel completely at ease (I was quite nervous!). It was an amazingly smooth process and I will be highly recommending Brumm Eye & Laser Vision to every one I know who might be able to benefit from Lasik.

I can't say enough great things about my LASIK procedure with Doctor Brumm. The results have been life changing! I used to think I had perfect vision with the correction my contact lenses provided; only after LASIK did I realize how much I was missing out on. Even though my contacts technically gave me 20/20 vision, after my LASIK procedure I gained a whole new sense of awareness. My tennis and golf games instantly improved after my procedure because I finally could establish spatial relationships with the court and the course.

My corrective lenses held me back in ways I didn't realize until I finally got perfect vision with LASIK. My eyes would dry out outdoors - exacerbating my allergies and keeping me from activities I love. I can now spend the day outdoors without discomfort. I can finally look around when I run outside instead of staring at the path ahead because of my contacts drying out. Plus my eyes actually feel good now that I'm not poking myself in the eye twice a day putting in or taking out contacts. I am so glad I went through with the procedure!

Doctor Brumm and his staff are excellent. I shopped around and did consultations at multiple offices before deciding to go with Brumm Eye and Laser. Doctor Brumm is the smart choice; the staff is professional and friendly, the doctors are top-notch, and I attribute my lack of complications to their meticulous attention to detail. At other offices I was treated like a number - no one took the time to explain potential complications or what I could do to reduce my risks. Doctor Brumm and his staff put me at ease because they were honest with me about potential complications and they made sure the scans of my eye were correct - scanning my eyes a month after my first scan after they realized I had put my contacts in for a couple hours prior to my initial consultation. They really went the extra mile to ensure the best results.

In regards to the excellent staff, Doctor Walter at Brumm Eye and Laser told me getting pregnant within six months of surgery could alter my results - no other office warned me about that risk. Doctor Brumm's office is the only one I found that has a technician with you holding your hand through the procedure. Having someone there to let me know what was going on was such a relief, it made the entire experience positive. There were also two laser technicians in the room during the procedure. These guys were great. Not only did they offer up comic relief in an otherwise stressful situation, they were able to provide a countdown during the procedure which made it go by in a snap. Doctor Brumm is fantastic; he does such great work and keeps a human element in a medical office - rare to say the least. The front desk staff was great in working with my insurance not only for my procedure, but also with subsidizing sunglasses. Doctor Bruening took care of me both pre and post op. He deserves a medal for his kind responses to all my crazy questions (like, "how soon can I go skydiving after surgery?") He's not only an outstanding doctor; he is a genuinely great guy who made this a first-class experience. The entire staff knew my name without looking at a file after my first visit, that kind of personal care along with their medical expertise helped me attain perfect vision without any complications. I truly appreciate the tremendous impact they have made in my life.
